I'm an artist from Staunton, Virginia, working in sculpture, painting, and video. I received a B.A. from Mary Baldwin University.
The mind is a house. This house, if left in disrepair, becomes something distorted, a dilapidated burden that is no longer a home. Unattended, the self becomes condemned within it. To remediate the decay, conviction is necessary. It is still within grasp to restore this house and what it holds.
Through the use of miniatures, masks, and dolls, I seek to explore how safety and identity are reconstructed through the process of overcoming despair and neglect. Informed by childhood memories, spiritual teachings, and Jungian psychology, I pursue ideas and visions coming from beyond the conscious self, accessing the obscured parts of the psyche using methods such as automatic drawing and writing. My work is an effort to explore the unconscious and the shadow, through a surreal and dreamlike world, in order to develop a deeper understanding of the symbolism from within and a vision of the path towards the restoration that can come as we tend to the house of the mind.
