Talula Merriwether Mays is a multi-disciplinary artist from the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. She received a BA in Studio Art at Mary Baldwin University, where she was awarded Top Honors at the 2019 Capstone Festival for her thesis exhibition, "To Seek Again the Patchwork House". Her work spans many mediums, including mask-making, miniatures, experimental film, painting, drawing, photography, book-binding, and installation work. Themes of self-reflection and self-realization are central to her work, examining the process of uncovering and shedding unconscious belief systems in order to embody oneself fully. Though often visually dark or unsettling, her work is intended to convey a sense of hope and provide a space for others to acknowledge and integrate their own darkness.
